Marc is a proud third-generation resident of Revere, growing up as part of a working-class, blue-collar family. His father was a Local 35 union painter, instilling a strong work ethic in Marc. Even at that young age, Marc aspired to be a leader captaining his football, track, and hockey teams before graduating from Revere High in 1997. Marc went on to play collegiate football at American International College before family responsibilities steered him into the workforce as a laborer with Local 22.
In 2006, Marc enlisted U.S. Army and was deployed to a remote outpost deep in the mountains of Afghanistan. Silvestri was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for his actions during a four-hour firefight with the Taliban, and later in the deployment, he earned a Purple Heart when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his outpost. After being medically retired from the Army, Marc and his family moved back to Revere.
Due to the visible and invisible wounds of war, Marc struggled with substance misuse, post-traumatic stress, and a traumatic brain injury following his retirement. But as a person in recovery, Marc knows that lives can be changed even in the darkest and most difficult times. Marc knows what it is to struggle, knows what it takes to overcome, and Marc knows how to help those who need it. Marc’s experience re-ignited his passion for service, and he resumed his education and graduated from Salem State University.
Since 2017, Marc has been working tirelessly on behalf of the veterans of Revere and their families, ensuring that every person who puts on a uniform has the benefits and services they deserve. Under Marc’s leadership, more programs, services, and opportunities have been established for our veterans than ever in Revere's history.
During his time on the City Council, Marc has worked hard to support our local economy and is a champion for our residents, working to improve city services and support programs that benefit the community. He has also strongly advocated for education, public safety, and health and human services to ensure Revere remains a safe and welcoming community. Marc has also been a vocal advocate for investing in Revere’s schools and providing our current and future students with the resources they need to succeed.
Marc's life experiences and strong work ethic sets him apart. He knows how to overcome hardship and what it takes to help others do the same. Marc has dedicated his career to public service and is committed to getting in the trenches and fighting tirelessly for all who choose to call Revere home.
